In this heartfelt blog post, we shed light on a personal topic: Zoloft, or sertraline. Join me as I share my experiences of how sertraline has helped me overcome the challenges of anxiety, and panic attacks. From the fear of flying to the depths of debilitating panic, this is a story of resilience, self-discovery, and the transformative power of seeking help.
A Fear That Took Flight
At the age of 26, the sudden loss of two high school friends plunged me into panic mode, leading to an overwhelming fear of flying. Despite their untimely deaths being unrelated to aviation, the anxiety translated into a paralyzing dread every time I or someone I knew boarded a plane. The impact on my life was immense, disrupting work, relationships, and my overall well-being.
Nights of Panic and Isolation
As time went on, my anxiety escalated, manifesting in relentless panic attacks that affected my ability to breathe, sleep, and function. The fear of COVID-19 only added fuel to the fire, exacerbating my symptoms. Nighttime panic attacks, shortness of breath, heart palpitations—every moment became a battle against my mind. The struggle intensified, and I reached a point where I could no longer care for myself or my loved ones.
Seeking a Lifeline
Realizing the toll my panic attacks were taking on my children and relationships, I knew I had to take action. Reluctant to rely on medication, I explored alternative paths to healing before finally turning to an online healthcare app. After unsuccessful attempts with other treatments, I was prescribed Zoloft (sertraline), offering a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.
The Journey Begins
Initial hesitations about taking medication quickly dissipated as I noticed positive changes in my well-being. Zoloft helped restore my ability to engage in daily activities, whether it was applying makeup, doing my hair, or simply taking my kids to the park—things that seemed impossible during the height of my anxiety. Gradually, the fog began to lift, and a sense of normalcy returned.
Navigating Side Effects and Considerations
While Zoloft proved effective in managing my anxiety, I became aware of potential side effects, including weight gain. As someone conscious of their physical health, this posed a new challenge. I discuss my concerns and the possibility of switching to Wellbutrin, a medication known for weight stability. It’s a personal decision, and I share my thoughts on exploring different options with the guidance of medical professionals.
The Importance of Consistency
Maintaining a consistent medication routine became crucial as I noticed the significant impact of missing even a single dose. The stability and relief provided by Zoloft were undeniable, urging me to explore the long-term effects and the process of eventually discontinuing its use. It’s a topic I plan to delve into further and share in the future.
In this journey of self-discovery and healing, Zoloft (sertraline) has played a vital role in helping me confront and overcome the paralyzing grip of anxiety and panic attacks. Through my story, I hope to inspire others who may be struggling with similar challenges to seek the support they need and consider the potential benefits of medication. Remember, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and by embracing our vulnerabilities, we can find the strength to reclaim our lives.
Note: It’s important to consult a healthcare professional before starting or adjusting any medication. Personal experiences shared in this blog post should not substitute medical advice or treatment.

As a psycotherspist, I understand your story and appreciate you sharing. Many people fear taking medication, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking medication if you need it.

This is a very brave post Thankyou for sharing your story. Mine is similar, but with depression. I was very hesitant to take medication as well, but I’m glad I eventually chose to because it has really made a difference. I also have been noticing some weight gain on my medicine, which is a little concerning. I’m also worried about how I might feel when I decide to come off the medication, but I’m taking things slowly for now. I’m not gonna rush to come off the medicine, and I’ll try to do some things to keep my weight under control.

I’m also hesitant about coming off of the medication. Addressing the cause of the depression (or in my case anxiety) while taking the medication seems to be good course of action.

About Covid, fear and anxiety took hold of so many of us who are still struggling. I was put on a different medication while in the hospital with Covid but was able to come off several months later. The aftermath and struggle is real. Thanks for being so open about it. I’m so sorry that you had to deal with the loss of two friends.
