Hi Olives! If you’re lucky enough to have a small entryway or a narrow hallway, you know that these spots can often become eyesores. Large pieces are too bulky and we can find ourselves tripping over furniture at every attempt to maneuver through the area. Still, small pieces can make the space look even more void than a white-painted wall.
Because adding too many items to a small area will quickly turn into clutter (not to mention fire hazard), the technique that I’ve chosen is to add focal points to the area.
So many of us have an eye for style, but struggle to blend pieces cohesively. In this post, I’ll decompose this setting to show just how simple it can be to reimage the entryway or hallway in your home.
The Bench or Table
For smaller spaces, it works to use one or two statement pieces as a focal point, keep it simple. You wouldn’t want your family to began leaving their shoes and bags shoved underneath your entryway setting. Knowing that only a few items belong in the area should prevent that from happening. Okay, so let’s talk benches.
For the narrow hallway in the J&O studio, I needed a small bench, however, for this project you can also use a console table. I adore the farmhouse, industrial style, and I was lucky enough to find this bench at my local grab-and-go home decor store. You can find a very similar bench here. This design works well with just about any style of decor so once you find this bench it will be useful for many years to come.
The Mirror or Artwork
For the second statement piece, I went with the black circle mirror. In a narrow entryway or hallway, I recommend using a mirror wall statement piece as opposed to artwork. To visitors passing through, the mirror creates the illusion of the space being much larger than it is. For this mirror just head over to the shop my favorites page.
The Magic
I always say that the magic is in the details. So far we have a pretty good base, but we often don’t get that feeling of comfort of elegance from our anchor pieces. When I want to add the welcoming spirit of comfort to an area, I opt for plush items like pillows, throws, and plush rugs. I am a huge fan of reimaging pieces that may serve a better purpose in another area. I have had this nature-inspired twig tree for many years. It was a nice addition to this space. A natural jute rug or a faux animal rug like the one shown adds texture below. The throw pillow was sourced at Target, as well as, the simple white candle. These pillows are fairly easy to locate and they add simple elegance to a space.
